Happy New Year
Christmas and the New Year have been very busy. One member of staff broke her leg dismounting from a 15 hand horse in the yard on 23rd December! As you can imagine, this caused a lot of problems with Christmas work plans. I have advertised for another helper for the next 3 months – if anyone is interested in a job please ring me on 07860 110153. I need somebody experienced with horses and a good rider.
The horses from Mick Channons ran creditably at Kempton on Boxing Day but 2 of the races were not suitable. However, their owner, Mr Radford was taking his family to the meeting and wanted to see as many of his horses on the track as possible. Knock House ran very well in the 2 ½ mile Novice Handicap Chase to finish 2nd. Warden Hill was well outclassed in the Kauto Star Feltham Novices Chase but still finished 2nd due to most of the other horses falling or pulling up. Sgt Reckless’ run in the Christmas Hurdle was – to my mind – a waste of time. He is currently on a Novice Chase programme and needs good ground. He was totally out of his depth and did not like the softened going.
Despite being one down on staff, we are still very busy on the yard and Calgary Bay is due to make an appearance in a Hunter Chase in February. He has been off a course for nearly 2 years due a leg problem and he is now 12 years old but he is in great form and looks a picture. He will run from West Lockinge Farm. Edredon Bleu won the King George as a 12 year old! Harry Bannister will ride him this Spring and we have a couple of other horses here belonging to his father – another of whom – Port Golan – is due to go Hunter Chasing as well.
A Happy New Year to everybody. It has been a tough year without Terry but my staff and supporters have been great. I spent 3 days in Connemara over Christmas. It was a lovely break but very sad as I stayed in our favourite hotel. Fortunately, I have wonderful friends over there and I was well cared for.
