Cheltenham Festival Week
What an amazing week at Cheltenham! Some extremely emotional moments but some great results. Firstly there was the race dedicated to Terry – The Terry Biddlecombe National Hunt Chaser on Tuesday, then Somersby under Dominic Elsworth ran an absolute blinder in the Champion Chase to be second to Sire de Grugy and finally our ex stable jockey and Terry’s protégé, Jim Culloty – who rode Best Mate to 3 Gold Cup wins, captured the Kim Muir Chase with Spring Heeled on Thursday, then the pinnacle of the week – the Gold Cup itself – with Lord Windermere. Terry would have been so proud of Jim. During Terry’s illness over the past 6 months, Jim was a huge supporter to us both and often came over from Ireland and stayed here. He also attended both Terry’s funeral and the Celebration of Terry’s life at Cheltenham in February.
We have been very busy here at West Lockinge Farm. My leg is mending well and I’m starting to walk again. We still have some lovely young horses in work and the ground is good so plenty of jumping. The floods are finally beginning to dry out. What a winter of water! We have some excellent staff her and good riders, and vacancies for young horses for jumping education and basic schooling or pre training.
Yogi Breisner will be in attendance on a regular basis throughout the Spring/Summer, and my Connemara Stud will be very busy with mares to foal and visitors to our stallion, Lecarrow King. Watch this space!
