The weather seems to have picked up a little an it is not so cold but very dreary. Dull and grey. Went to Aintree last Saturday. The Grand National is now a totally different type of race – just another handicap with 40 runners but it would be great to win it! There is still an amazing atmosphere and huge prize money. There were 85,000 spectators – many more than Cheltenham and world wide coverage. The modifications have certainly ‘saved’ the race but the fences are so small and soft compared with the old days.
Loch Ba ran a respectable race to be 5th in the 3m 1f Handicap Chase. He will be an interesting horse next season on softer ground and over further. Sgt Reckless was very disappointing in the bumper and did not live up to the trainer’s expectations. He must have a physical problem.
Warden Hill ran a good race at Ascot on Sunday in the Maiden hurdle. He was beaten a “nose” but we all thought he’d won! Still, he can stay a Novice for next Season now so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise.
We have had a lot of Event horses on our gallops which are proving very popular and are rented out for £10 per horse. We are also offering opportunities to use our schooling field for Point to Point horses and a field of show jumps. Enquiries to Hen – 07860 110153.
When the weather properly brightens up, we will plan some courses/clinics for flat work and jumping.
