April

Life has been busy at West Lockinge despite the ghastly cold weather and the bitter winds/night frosts.  We have a lot of horses in work and some interesting recruits for jumping tuition including a couple of Nicky Hendersons’ plus a lovely young Point to Point horse and several of Mick Channons who are learning to jump prior to going hurdling.

Somersby was due to run at Liverpool on Friday in a 2 and ½ mile Handicap hurdle but for some unknown reason has been raised from 143 to 156 by the handicapper even though he has not run in a hurdle race since 2009!  How can on possibly account for this rise?  The handicappers give horses no chances at all.

Loch Ba – who was denied a run at Newbury 2 weeks ago – may run in a Handicap Chase at Aintree on Grand National day and Sgt Reckless is out to atone in the Championship bumper.  Better ground and a flat course could well suit him.

Plans for courses at the end April/May are well under way – so watch this space.
