Hen and Terry

Busy Busy

We are getting very busy at West Lockinge Farm.  We have a lovely bunch of young horses here including several of Mick Channon’s and also some promising event horses.  Franky Reid-Warrilow has got 4 horses here including her advanced mare Dolley Whisper on whom last week she had a most interesting dressage lesson with Charlotte Dujardin at Terry’s brother’s farm near Gloucester.  Charlotte teaches there on a regular basis and also keeps some of her young horses at the farm.

Yogi Briesner has not been here for a few weeks due to the extremes of weather but is due to return here next Friday.  If people wish to have lessons with him at Lockinge, please contact Hen on 07860 110153 or else e-mail hen@westlockinge.co.uk  We are still planning to hold some one day clinics her in April/May.  I shall personally take some of them and Annabel Scrimgeour will help out with the dressage.  It is also planned to hold an instructional day for those interested in showing native ponies in hand.  We show our own Connemara ponies and I do plenty of judging for a variety of official panels.

My ex horses are continuing to do well with Mick Channon.  Ballypatrick is a model of consistency.  He followed up his 2nd at Huntingdon (beaten a short head) on February 7th, by winning at Fakenham – a beginners chase – by 8 lengths last Friday.  Viva Steve was 4th in the EBF Novice hurdle there but did not handle the sharp track.  He will make a fine chaser next season.  Somersby was disappointing in the Ascot Chase on Saturday 16th.  He was only 4th to Cue Card but the first 4 were covered by just 8 lengths.  He appeared not to stay the 2m 5f in the soft ground and will probably revert to 2 miles on, hopefully, better ground.  He may well run in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham although it looks  as though Sprinter Sacre is unbeatable at the moment.  Calgary Bay was taken out of his intended race at Warwick on Saturday 9th due to the heavy ground which he hates but will be entered in the Grimthorpe chase at Doncaster on 2nd March.  Ballylifen was 2nd AGAIN in a Novice hurdle at Warwick.  He definitely has seconditis but surely his turn will come soon?
